Le Thi Lien was former Head of the Department of Underwater Archaeology, and Senior Researcher at the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology (VASS). She has been a visiting fellow and co-ordinate researcher at Harvard with funding from Harvard-Yenching Institute. She has also held the position of Cultural Program Officer at the UNESCO Hanoi Office. Her studies focused on Oc Eo culture in Southern Vietnam, early cultural exchanges and interaction with Southeast Asia, India and China and maritime archaeology. Her publications include a book on “Nghệ thuật Phật giáp và Hindu giáo ở Đồng bằng sông Cửu long trước thế kỉ 10 [Buddhist and Hindu art in the Cuu Long River Delta prior to 10th century AD]” (2006), and the edited volume: “Di sản Lịch sử và những hướng tiếp cận mới  [Historical Heritages and New Perspective]” (2011); as well as more than 80 chapters and papers in Vietnamese and English. In addition to the archaeological research, she actively participates in a range of activities related to conservation, promotion, and education of cultural heritage.
