HAF-KLA-1 | Remains of a former Maaloodhu Ge and Madrasah

The building was a Maaloodhu Ge – a dedicated structure for the ritual recitation of Islamic devotional texts (Ar. mawlid). When such recitations were held, everyone on the island came to listen. Such practices, however, were abandoned here decades ago. Although it is not known exactly when the building was built, it was the work of a carpenter in R. Alifushi (an island in R Atoll) during the time that Kasim was the Chief of the island of Kelaa.
