Maritime Asia Heritage Survey Indonesia
The Maritime Asia Heritage Survey (MAHS) is funded by Arcadia and based at the Kyoto University’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies. The project conducts field surveys of historical sites, structures, objects, and manuscripts across four countries in Maritime Southern Asia: Indonesia, Thailand, and the Maldives. The data collected through this work is made open-access available on the project website and securely archived in order to produce and maintain records of the diverse and distinctive heritage of the region, which currently faces compound environmental and human threats to its preservation.
The MAHS is now recruiting one full-time Position (photographer). Successful candidates will be required to travel extensively with the Team to a number of different provinces in Indonesia for up to ten months each year.
Responsibilities includes:
- Working collaboratively with the MAHS team in the field to produce high-quality photos of heritage sites, building, artifacts and manuscripts following established data collection procedures and documentation protocols for the Project.
- Serving as main photographer for the Project, and supervising photo documentation work done by others on the Field Team.
- Shooting for photogrammetry to produce 3D models of structures and artifacts in the field and in museum settings.
- Assisting in recording video for oral history interview
- Systematic management and transfer of photo files to the technical support team.
- Contributions to aspects operations including packing/unpacking, equipment cleaning and maintenance, and other tasks necessary for the overall productivity of the Field Team.
- Conducting other duties as are required to maintain the efficient operation of the Project.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in photography or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years experiences in field photography, architectural photography, a museum photo studio, art gallery studio, or other relevant environment.
- Previous professional experience working in the heritage field is preferred
- Experience photographing 2D and 3D pictures under a variety of lighting conditions in the studio, galleries, outdoor, in situ, and off-site.
- Proficiency in current versions Photoshop and other imaging-editing software.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Experience using computers and familiar with commonly used Microsoft, Google, and Adobe applications.
- Willingness to work in a demanding environment that may require work outside of normal hours.
- Proficiency in English and the ability to work with a diverse team of women and men from around the world.
- Treating all people fairly and consistently and with dignity and respect.
Starting date and term:
November 1, 2024, to August 30, 2025.
Probation period:
3 months
