Maritime Asia Heritage Survey

Sheak Mahfujur Rahman (Sunny) is Digital Heritage Coordinator for the Maritime Asia Heritage Survey (MAHS). He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Archaeology from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. His early work in excavations, surveys, and emergency documentation shaped his commitment to preserving sites in regions vulnerable to climate change and other threats to cultural heritage. Today, he combines traditional fieldwork with advanced digital methods.

His expertise includes 3D digital documentation, aerial and terrestrial photogrammetry, LiDAR, and geospatial data processing to record and archive heritage sites across Maritime Asia, including Indonesia, the Maldives, Thailand, and Japan. Since joining MAHS in 2023, he continues to oversee the production of high-resolution 3D reconstructions, manage digital workflows, and develop virtual museum resources that make Asia’s heritage accessible for research and public engagement. He supports sustainable approaches to cultural heritage management and builds capacity in digital documentation technologies across the region.
