A full-day international seminar was held at the Cultural Conservation Center on November 15, 2023, titled “Adat (traditional) Mosques, Past and Future”. It preceded the opening of the Kaitetu Gallery.
This first international one-day seminar held in Ambon city addressed the future of wooden traditional mosques along the Spice Route, more specifically in maritime Southeast Asia. It featured international experts from academia, grassroots communities, NGOs, and government institutions.
Participating academic institutions included Universitas Pattimura, Oxford Brookes University, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Islamic State University, National University of Singapore, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Trisakti, and the Maritime Asia Heritage Survey based at Kyoto University.
Grassroot associations included Bumi Pelestarian Pusaka Indonesia (BPPI), Pusat Dokumentasi Arsitektur, Uma Nusantara, Suar Bahri Kultura, Endangered Wooden Architecture Programme (EWAP).Governmental institutions involved were the Government of Maluku Province, the Cultural Conservation Bureau (PBK), the National Research Bureau (BRIN), Museum dan Cagar Budaya Warisan Dunia Borobudur, the Directorate of Personnel Development and Cultural Institutions (Direktorat Pembinaan Tenaga dan Lembaga Kebudayaan- PTLK) from the Directorate of Culture.
